OMG! I´m in Paris!

... is a writing on a postcard I could not resist when in Paris. This exactly is my relationship with Paris. I have been there for several times but every time I am totally amazed, because there is always something new to discover and remember things I have already known but forgot.

This time I was lucky because I lived almost in the centre of Paris, in Rue Strasbourg, therefore it was close to everything on foot. I actually did not use the underground although I wanted to buy a "carnet" at first, which is a packet of 10 tickets for the public transportation for a better price. Rue Strasbourg is quite a distinctive street, by some people it is considered a border that should not be passed by a person valuing safety. Well, this might be a bit true, once during an evening walk through neighbouring streets I encountered a few waiting ladies... and round the corner there were a few waiting men... what were they waiting for? But even the oldest profession somehow belongs to Paris, after all Zola´s novel "Nana" or Balzac´s "Splendeurs et miseres des courtisans" took place in this city.

If you are a morning person you will encounter the cleaners of Parisian streets who are washing away the sins of the previous night. I definitely do not recommend to try to come closer to them, they would not have a problem to shower you too. It´s better to cross the street and continue your walk on the other pavement. Although Parisian streets are washed frequently the smell of urine is present everywhere, which is a bit unpleasant and maybe even incomprehensive because France is known for its perfumes, isn´t it? Of course, perfumes are present everywhere too... there is often more than an appropriate amount of a perfume on a person .

In some books about Paris you will read that Parisians are leaving the city during the summer and letting the tourists to enjoy it. That is quite true, there is a huge amount of tourists on the well known boulevards and near all the iconic sights that you have a problem to get somewhere you want. You also notice that quite a lot of small shops are closed, sometimes also some smaller museums are closed too! Unfortunately this was the case of Musée Maxim´s that was also "fermé en eté", maybe I will have a better luck the next time.

If you are about to leave for Paris be ready for at least one rain a day. You could be lucky and it will not rain during your vacation but I think it is better to have an umbrella, or you can wait during the rain in a café or somewhere in an entryway in order not to get wet. In the movie "Sabrina", staring Audrey Hepburn, it is implied that a true Parisian never uses an umbrella and in the movie "Midnight in Paris" by Woody Allen it is said that "Paris is most beautiful in the rain".
