The end of the fashion dictate

In one of my older blogs you could have read about the creation of the fashion trends in our contemporary period. In this blog I will tell you how and when the fashion trends ceased to be obligatory for our existence and functioning in the society. Looking into the past one can notice that each historical epoch had a typical clothes. One was eve able to tell the social standing of a person just by the clothes. In these days we are unable to identify only one style that would by worn by all of us. Our era does not have only one style that would be worn by everyone and that would be binding. In these days we are free to wear what we please and it will usually not be the reason to become outcast from the society.

In the 1940s/1950s the rationing came to an end. The rationing was introduced in many countries because of the lack of food and other materials suring the world war. The end of rationing meant that it will be possible to follow fashion trends once again. The clothes stopped being just an utilitarian thisng used to protect body from adverse surroundings. Finally it was possible once again to dress more extravagantly.

In the second half of 1950s the new fashion waves emerged and died out so quickly that it was impossible to follow them and change the wardrobe (even from the financial point of view). These fashion trends had such a short life span that the fashion dictate stopped being a dictate. The homogeneity in dressing according to the fashion trends disappeares. I already touched this theme in my article about midi-skirts that were rejected by women because they did not want to change their wardrobe, which meant a financial burden - because before midi-skirts the mini-skirts were in fashion.

With this change the Parisian luxurious boutiques (often haute couture ones) stopped dictating the fashion trends. Suddenly completely opposing silhouettes and trends appear side by side. With the advancement of the industry the clothes starts to be created mechanically. The master skills of couturiers and seamstresses is not as demanded as it used to be in the past because of the higher price and the time. The ready-to-wear clothes in set sizes spreads in shops and replaces the custom made clothes from fashion houses.
