triks to make outfits better, how to look better, make the best of your wardrobe, how to shop clothes, how clothes fit, what material is best, is cotton high quality, elevate wardrobe, non sweaty material, right fit for curves, invest in handbag, invest in bra, invest in shoes, do not buy cheap shoes, search secondhands, unique clothes in secondhands, treasures in vintage shop, anti consumerism, anti fast fashion

1, The choice of material that your clothes are made of can really impact the look but also how you feel. Generally it is better to side with natural materials like cotton, cashmere or silk, these usually look great and you will be more comfortable and not feel that sweaty. On the other hand these materials are more demanding when it comes to maintenance – ironing but also washing. Be aware of the fact that some silks cannot be simply washed because otherwise you would risk ruining the fabric. This is the reason why clothes that have a mixture of materials used are better when it comes to quality but also maintenance. Just make sure the synthetic materials are not in the majority. I would also like to point out that in these days cotton does not mean high quality garment any more. Some cotton garments are even made of recycled cotton garments, which is not a bad concept but the cotton fibres are not that high quality anymore.

2, When looking for some new clothes in a shop be sure to try it on and determine if it is the right fit for you. You should concentrate on the curvier parts of your body because this is where the problems with the garments usually are. Is there the right amount of fabric around your breasts and armpit, around your bum and crotch area? Sometimes you will find out that there is not enough fabric, which results in the garment being too tight OR there is a bulk of extra fabric. Both cases should result in you leaving the garment on the rack and move on to something else. Sometimes I found out that all trousers in a shop would not fit me in the same area because they obviously used the same pattern on all trousers for that seasonal collection. In that case your only option is to go to a different shop or come back when a new collection is on the racks and hope they are not using that pattern anymore.

3, There are pieces of outfit that no one really wants to invest in but then there are other that would deserve a bit higher budget if possible. I think everyone has it a bit different, I personally am willing to spend more on a handbag, shoes and bras. By investing in a handbag I am not saying that all my handbags are expensive, not at all, I treat some as fashion accessories BUT I have one really nice that was not cheap (relatively) that I carry to work. It is my “business handbag”. It is bigger, I am able to put there all necessary stuff I might need during the day and also a file with A4 documents can fit in it. I am willing to spend more on shoes because I learned the hard way that it is not wise to buy cheap ones that will fall apart or will make blisters on your feet. I also think that a nice bra will change how you feel, it also can have an impact on your posture and the way you look.

4, If you are trying to find something unique, save some money or keep away from consumerism I would suggest trying to go to some secondhands or vintage shops. You can really find treasures if you are patient enough and frequent these shops. Soon you will find out what style the owner of the shop has and if it fits your style too. This way you will be able to identify your favourite shops and you will know that in like 80 % of your visits you will find something you love. There is higher possibility that the shop will have and keep a certain style if it is owned by one person or smaller group of people. The secondhand chain stores can be also good but these usually do not sell clothes in one particular style you might be after, whch is why it is more challenging to find something you love. If interested in knowing the difference between secondhand and vintage, read this article from my blog.
1. I totally agree with these 4 points - especially the items that need a little more investment. I'm guilty of just buying cheap bras from Primark, so I could definitely do with buying some better quality ones from a shop where I can get measured and fitted properly. Becca x

  3. I agree with you about secondhand and vintage clothing, and chosing items that will last. Slow fashion rather than throw away clothes. Nothing wrong with recycled materials, but using sustainable materials like organic cotton, hemp or bamboo is great!

  4. I've found some of my favorite pieces at vintage clothing shops. There's nothing like a pair of broken in Levis or a t-shirt that's soft and faded just so. Also, I try to buy timeless pieces that I truly love
