Morning glory of cherry blossoms | Swiss waist corset

It is that time of the year, folks - cherry blossoms everywhere, the pink feed starts rolling. Once again I am thinking about making a "heatmap" of the trees around my city as they start and finish blooming, thuh I already kinda have it in my head after all those yeas of practicing "hanami". These on the photos below are the start of the season ;)

Již nadešel ten čas, drazí - kvetoucí sakury jsou všude kolem nás a příval růžových fotek začíná. Opět se mi do hlavy vkrádá nápad vytvořit si mapku svého města se sakurami s údajem kdy a kde zrovna kvetou, ale po těch létech praktikování "hanami" už to mám celkem v hlavě. Stromy na fotkách níže patří k těm, co každoročně odstartují tuto růžovou sezónu :)

The blouse and the skirt are both hand-me-downs, both were created by my mom or grandma and then worn by my mom, nowadays I am taking care of these precious pieces. For example the skirt fascinates me with one additional seam - when there was not enough fabric to cut the half circle skirt, the missing part was added from a leftover fabric, but carefully keeping the flow and not disturbing the pattern of the fabric. It is just how it was done in the olden days.

Blůza a sukně, co mám na sobě, jsou obě poděděné a doma šité mou mami či babi, následně je nosila moje mami a teď je opatruji já. Sukně mě fascinuje milým detailem, kdy již v jednom rohu nezbylo dost látky na půlkruhový střih, tak se tam kus přišil ze zbylé látky. Bylo to ale uděláno opatrně a tak, aby vzor kostek na látce nebyl narušen. Tak se to prostě dříve dělávalo.

I felt like combining the different fabric patterns of the blouse and the skirt but wanted to divide them by a black belt and remembered this faux leather "swiss waist" I created a few years ago inspired by the empress Sissi or Disney´s Sleeping Beauty (however hers is an overbust piece). I don´t wear it that often as it is basically a corset, so it does restrict the rib area a bit. It is not an uncomfotable gament as it was not designed as a waist training piece, just a made-to-measure belt, closely hugging my waist - it only has two plastic bones at the back to support the closure part. Just the idea of sitting for a long time in it or walking quickly, as is my habit, doesn´t seem that great, though I did already wear it once for a whole one day trip to Prague for showrooms after the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

Chtělo se mi zkombinovat tyto dva odlišné vzory blůzy a sukně, ale chtěla jsem je oddělit černým páskem. Vzpomněla jsem si tedy na tento černý koženkový korzetový opasek, který jsem si před pár léty ušila inspirována císařovnou Sissi a Disneyovskou Růženkou (i když ta má vyšší korzet přes prsa). Moc často jej nenosím, protože jde tak trochu o korzet, omezuje spodní oblast žeber. Není však nepohodlný, nejde o stahovací korzet, jde spíše o velmi vypasovaný pásek na míru - má jen dvě plastové kostice vzadu na vyztužení průchodek, kterými se zavazuje. Jen mi nepřipadá jako vhodný kus oděvu na nějaké delší sezení někde nebo na rychlou chůzi. Už jsem v něm ale absolvovala celodenní výlet do Prahy na Mercedes Benz Fashion Week showroom.

To create this waist cincher pattern I took my underbust corset pattern, taped all parts together and shaped it into a belt. It consists of two panels with only one horizontal seam at the waist area.

K vytvoření střihu na tento opasek jsem poslepovala části mého střihu na krátký korzet a pak si pohrála s jeho tvarem. Výsledkem jsou dva panely s horizontálním švem v úrovni pasu.

I have to say that even though Sissi is not my "favourite" historical figure, this woman fascinates me. I own one book about her sports and diet regimen (written by Gabriele Praschl-Bichler) and I´d never believe a book on such a topic can be this entertaining. Anyways, here and there I enjoy her as a historical figure, romanticized or reimagined as in the movie Corsage. The movie was not a masterpiece but I enjoyed how it was slowly unravelling and introducing modern objects into the story set in the past.

Musím přiznat, že ačkoliv Sissi není zrovna mou oblíbenkyní, fascinuje mě. Vlastním jednu knihu, která pojednává o jejím cvičebnám a dietním programu (Kondiční a dietní program císařovny Sissi od Gabriele Praschl-Bichler) a nikdy bych nevěřila, že kniha na takové téma může být tak zábavná. Nicméně, Sissi mě baví, zromantizovaná či jinak hravě interpretovaná jako ve filmu Corsage. Film sice nebyl žádný masterpiece, ale bavilo mě, jak se do historického příběhu postupně přimíchávaly moderní prvky.
