white wedding dress

This dress was on the display at the exhibition about the Habsburg Monarchy, it is a white wedding dress. I adore the tiny details of the construction that I tried to capture on the photos, I find especially the lace train fascinating.
I generally find dresses with trains interesting (beside the fact I like the look of it) it makes me wonder - how were the women walking with it in the streets? As far as I know streets weren´t cleaner back in the time than our streets (on the contrary!). Were the women riding in the carriages more, or did they carry the back of the shirt in hand (not that classy) or didn´t they just care about it? What do you think?

    1. Yes it is, on the other hand she must have been quite small too, so she probably was not too much tight-laced. It actually did not shock me, when I saw it at the exhibition. But I must admit I do admire ladies laced up in corsets during some stressing events (and I do consider wedding a stressing event).

  2. On your question about how they dealt with the trains... I'm no historian at all, but I always figured if a lady was wealthy enough to have a gown with a train, she wasn't going outside with it. She would have been transported to and from events where trains were acceptable attire (weddings, balls, etc.) with maids to help her in any brief stint outside. From what I've read, wealthy ladies changed clothing often throughout the day - morning gowns, walking attire, evening gowns, riding habits, etc. Just my two cents. :) I love this set of pics, thanks for posting.
