Charles Frederick Worth
(1825-1895)
Was very skilled English fashion designer who is considered to be the founder of the French tradition of Haute couture. He did not follow the common practice of that time when the customers were the ones who decided the design of the dress. On the contrary, it was him who dictated the dress desig and therefore was the first dressmaker to be considered an artist.
As you can see on the 2nd picture below, he designed the dress depicted on the Sisi´s famous portrait by Franz Xaver Winterhalter.
