Advent callendars - the fun countdown till Christmas 🎁🎄 BLOGmas: Day 2

While cheerfully awaiting the Christmas Eve many of us has this time connected with an advent calendar. In the Czech Republic the advent calendars have 24 windows (the 24th day is the main day, when we give and receive gifts). Each December day one window should be opened and it brings us closer and closer to the Christmas Eve.
S prosincem a vyčkáváním na Vánoce se pro mnohé již tradičně pojí adventní kalendáře. V Česku adventní kalendář sestává z 24 okének (24. pro nás nastává ten hlavní den, kdy si předáváme dárky). Každý prosincový den si můžeme otevřít jedno okénko, je to takové odpočítávání dní do Vánoc.

I usually received my advent calendar on 5.12. when St. Nicolaus came. I am not sure if others had it the same but it was nice to suddenly be able to open 5 windows at once! As a kid it happened quite often that in mid-December I have aready eaten through to the Christmas Eve. I think that last year it was for the first time that I had to open more windows at once on the Christmas Eve. I felt like I might have lost some of that Christmas spirit. But still, this year I got my chocolate advent calendar again, so it is probably not that bad with me and I am not too old for this ;) My boyfriend got one from me too, it has a Stormtrooper on it.

Já jsem většinou dostávala adventní kalendář, když přišel Mikuláš, tj. 5.12. Nevím, jestli to stejně měli i ostatní, každopádně bylo příjemné najednou moci otevřít 5 okének s čokoládou najednou! Jako dítě se mi často stalo, že jsem se projedla k Vánocům už někdy v půlce prosince. Myslím, že vloni se mi poprvé stalo, že jsem na Štědrý den dojídala čokolády z kalendáře. Tehdy jsem se zalekla, že už jsem možná pozbyla trochu té vánoční nálady, nadšeného vyčkávání. Přesto jsem svůj čokoládový adventní kalendář dostala i letos, tak snad ještě tak stará nejsem ;) Můj přítel ode mě také dostal svůj, se Stormtrooperem.

I think the DIY advent calendars are an amazing idea. Be it a box with small drawers or small boxes in it or a thread with envelopes with gifts. For the "big girls" there is also an option to buy a beauty advent calendar. If you have a favourite brand then it is a marvellous idea and a possibility to try out new products. There are usually miniature products in these calendars, which is amazing, you can bring your fav ones with you when travelling. There is never enough miniature versions of your favourite products.

Myslím, že skvělým nápadem jsou vlastnoručně vytvořené adventní kalendáře. Ať už jde o krabičku se šuplíčky nebo krabičkami nebo o šňůru s psaníčky, ve kterých jsou malé dárečky. Pro "velké holky" je pak zajímavou alternativou adventní kalendář s kosmetikou. Pokud máte nějakou oblíbenou kosmetickou značku, pak můžete touto cestou vyzkoušet hned několik produktů. V kalendářích obvykle bývají spíše miniatury, takže tak můžete vyzkoušet a najít novou skvělou věc a využít tyto miniatury při cestování. Myslím, že malých balení na cesty není nikdy dost.

This year I saw (probably for the first time) in the Flying Tiger a candle with dates from 1st till 24.12. So, each day you should light the candle and let the one day melt off. Personally, I think I would not be able to do this the right way because I usually light a candle and leave it lit the whole evening, so I would probably be in the middle of December after the first lighting on the 1st December. But I believe that some people would be able to pull this off, who has the patience and gives it the attention needed. I would even give it to someone but giving it at the Christmas Eve would not make much sense, the gifted person would have to wait till next advent time. On the other hand it can be a nice little gift at St. Nicolaus day, if you still keep the tradition of gift giving at that day even in adulthood.
Letos jsem (snad prvně) viděla v Tigerovi svíčku, na níž byla data od 1. do 24. 12. Každý den se tedy měla zapálit a odtát dané datum. Tento koncept se mi také moc líbil, i když na dodržování by to pro mě bylo moc složité. Když si zapálím svíčku, tak ji většinou nechám hořet celý večer a zhasnu ji, když jdu spát. Tímhle stylem bych se mohla hned 1.12. ocitnout v půli prosince. Ale pro někoho, kdo by s tím měl trpělivost, to musí být super. Kdyby dávalo smysl ji darovat někomu na  Štědrý den, tak bych ji i koupila jako dárek. Vzhledem k tomu, že jde ale o adventní svíci, tak by obdarovaný musel čekat rok, než by ji mohl využít. Takže tohle by mohl být jedině tip na dárek v rámci Mikulášské nadílky, pokud tento zvyk držíte i jako dospěláci.
