Christmas books 🎁🎄 BLOGmas: Day 16

Christmas is the time of peace (at least in theory) and I have it connected with reading. Another reason for this is that I usually get some books as a Christmas present and if I am not in te middle of another book I usually start reading the new books. In this article I would like to point out some of my favourites that take place during Christmas time.

Jelikož jsou Vánoce obdobím klidu (alespoň v teorii), mám je spojené s četbou knih. Je to zároveň tím, že k Vánocům knihy často dostávám jako dárek, takže pokud nemám rozečteno něco jiného, tak se na ně hned vrhnu. V tomto článku bych chtěla doporučit pár kousků, které mám ráda a je v nich obsaženo téma Vánoc.

My first tip is a book by Evžen Boček called The last aristocrat (1), but I believe it was not translated in English. Currently a fourth volume was published (and also a movie is in preparation) but I want to point out the first volume because a part of it is taking place during the Christmas time and it is satirizing the Christmas themed tours on a castle. The Christmas themed tours are quite widespread in Czechia (especially at moravian castles). The author is castle manager at Milotice so he has a ton of experience when it comes to this topic, which he projects (with a hyperbole) into his book series The Aristocrat.

Mým prvním tipem bude kniha od Evžena Bočka Poslední Aristokratka (1). V současnosti tato série knih má již čtyři díly (a připravuje se zfilmování), ale zde chci upozornit na ten první, protože se část odehrává o Vánocích a vtipně popisuje průběh speciálních vánočních prohlídek na zámku. V ČR jsou speciální vánoční/adventní prohlídky celkem rozšířené (nejvíce jich mají na moravských zámcích). Vzhledem k tomu, že autor je kastelán ze zámku Milotice, má s nimi jistě mnoho zkušeností, což s mírnou hyperbolou glosuje právě ve své sérii knih Aristokratka.

In this year a collection of detective stories appeared in bookstores. It is called The big book of Christmas detective stories and mysteries. It caught my attention and I am intending to read it (maybe even buy it). The stories by various authors are connected by the Christmas time when the events are happening.

V letošním roce se v knihkupectvích objevila Velká kniha vánočních detektivek a záhad, která mě okamžitě zaujala a někdy si ji hodlám přečíst (nebo i pořídit). Kniha je sbírkou příběhů od různých autorů detektivního žánru a spojuje je to, že se odehrávají v čase vánočním.

The last tip is a novel by Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, this is a classic that has been on my "to read list" for a long time. Hopefully I will soon be able to tick it off this list :)

Mým posledním tipem je Vánoční koleda od Charlese Dickense, což je klasika, která je na mém seznamu knih k přečtení už nějakou dobu. Snad si ji budu moci brzy odškrtnout :)
