The Mad Silkman

I have visited recently the exhibition The Mad Silkman at UPM in Praha that was talked about quite a lot for a while. The exhibition is about the work of Zika and Lída Ascher, I really enjoyed it a lot and would like to recomend it to you. Ascher´s emigrated from Czechia to London at the brink of WW2, where they founded a company specializing in creating prints on fabrics that were later used by famous fashion designers (Dior, Balmain, ...). They are maybe known more for their square scarves that were a product of their collab with famous artists (Matisse, Moore, Sutherland, ...), although they said it was not as finantially successful project as it might seem for the outsiders.
The exhibition displays many fabric swatches, square scarves, dresses made of Ascher´s fabrics and even some clothes designed by Lída Ascher who later on founded her own fashion line.

  1. That first dress, the style of it with the cape and the sleeves and neckline is gorgeous. The pattern isn't my kind of thing but the style of the dress is fantastic

    1. Hehe, this is a really stunning piece. It is a dress with raglan-like "sleeves" that are "draped" and are falling off the shoulders, so it might resemble a cape. I spent quite a while in front of it figuring out and drawing the pattern because I really want to try to recreate it. It would be a wonderful summer dress :)
