The types of people at Karlovy Vary Film Festival

Movie hipsters
They are usually called "backpackers", because they often stay at the camping site, but that is certainly not a rule, especially in the last years. These people come to the film festival to actually see movies. They will wait in the longest lines to make it to a movie they want to see. Some will even have two festival passes to be able to get 6 movie tickets for one day (you can get 3 tickets a day with one festival pass). These festival visitors belong to the most persistent visitors of the festival - they will stay the whole week and they will stay to the end of the five-hour silent movie about the life in a cottage in some forgotten village.

Party people
Party people come to Karlovy Vary during the film festival to make it to as many parties as possible. Be it crashing some posh events behind the red rope or party in the festival tent in front of the Thermal. Party people will even make their own party at the park and drink the alcohol they bought in nearby supermarket or at the stalls in front of the Thermal. They are not in Karlovy Vary to see movies, although they may get to one or two movies by mistake.

Real celebs
The real celebrities at the film festival are people from the film industry that are in Karlovy Kary to promote their newest movies at screenings or attend to prestigious parties they were invited to and sometimes They are there just to enjoy the atmosphere. They will often be interviewed by reputable newsoutlets, but you won´t read about them in the tabloids (unless they get photographed by the fashion police as an example of nice or bad outfit). Here and there you will notice them sitting in a restaurant or walking on the colonnade and sometimes their fans will ask them for an autograph or a photo.

Wanna-be celebs and influencers
They come to the festival to "be seen", as one fellow attendee of the festival called it. They try to make it on the first pages of tabloid magazines with some crazy act. Those that won´t even make it to the website coverage of the event of the tabloids will at least take a ton of pictures for their social media accounts. One of the favourite photo spots is the Moët wall in front of the entrance to the prestigious Moët party (that they were not invited to).
Tito lidé přijíždějí do Varů, aby "byli viděni", jak to jednou výstižně nazvala jedna návštěvnice festivalu.

Sugar babies (on the hunt)
Here and there you will notice a woman that has too much of everything on her (lip fillers, fake tan, hair damaged from bleach with visible weave tracks, cheap evening dress that try hard to look luxurious, very high heels, ...) that is stumbling along the Thermal corridors or along the colonnade. I pigeonholed them as sugar babies, because I never saw them at a movie projection. At the same time they might be one of the wanna-be celebs or party people, but they look so strikingly different from those groups that I created a group dedicated to them. Their looks make it clear that they want to be noticed and that they are either someone´s arm candy or are in the process of becoming someone´s armcandy.
