Stylish giallo horror movies to watch this Halloween

The genre of giallo horror movies was introduced to me thanks to Suspiria (both the old Argento version from 1977 and the new 2018 version) and once again this year at the Karlovy Vary film festival. We saw there the movie In Fabric that was inspired by the oldschool giallo horror genre - and it was hauntingly beautiful and fascinating. The visuality of these movies captivated me. And since then me and Y dived more into the giallo horror gentre by watching the old giallo movies from the 1960s-70s.

Se žánrem giallo hororů jsem se prvně seznámila díky filmu Suspiria (Argentově verzi z roku 1977 a nové verzi z roku 2018) a pak znovu, když jsem byla letos na filmovém festivalu v Karlových Varech. To jsme viděli film Takové krásné šaty, který byl inspirovaný oldschoolovým žánrem giallo hororů - a byl strašidelně krásný a fascinující. Vizuál tohoto filmu mě zaujal. Od té doby se já a Y díváme na giallo horory z 60. a 70. let.

When watching giallo movies you can expect bloodbaths and over the top killings, but also very pretty women in gorgeous attires. It is also interesting to see their make-up. Also the movie sets are gorgeous and somehow artificial as if from another world (this is very noteable in Suspiria). The presence of the killer is often foreshadowed by music, which is building the atmosphere. The killer also often has black leather gloves that are emphasized in a few scenes. It is said that in these scenes it is Argento´s hands.

U giallo filmů můžete očekávat kaluže krve a fakt šílené vraždy, ale také krásné herečky v úžasných outfitech. Také je zajímavé prohlížet si jejich make-up. Filmové kulisy bývají velmi povedené a někdy vypadají až uměle, jakoby z jiného světa (toto je hodně vidět v Suspirii). Přítomnost vraha je oznamována hudbou, což buduje atmosféru, a vrah má často oblečené černé kožené rukavice, na které je v některých scénách dáván důraz. Říká se, že v těchto scénách hrál sám Argento.
