Marie Terezie movie costumes at Valtice castle

In today´s blogpost I am sharing a few photos from the exhibition of costumes from the second part of the Marie Terezie miniseries that were shown during summer 2020 at the Valtice castle. Although the exhibition should still have been opened, it was prematurely closed because of the current Covid situation in the Czech Republic and restrictions imposed by the government. So if you have planned to visit it and couldn´t either because of the distance or timing, I am sharing some of the costumes I liked.

The exhibition itself was basically just in two big rooms and each visitor got a paper guide with some introduction and details about the costumes, mostly describing the scenes where they appeared and who wore them. Here and there they pointed out something about the costume or the jewellery used. The authors of the costumes pointed out that they did not try to create historically accurate costumes, they made the costumes to fit the situations and to emphasize the traits of the characters who wore them. So they created some costumes that were totally over the top (in a bad way) to depict the character of Francis Stephen´s mistress.

V dnešním blogu se s vámi podělím o pár fotek z výstavy kostýmů druhé části filmů o Marii Terezii, která se konala na zámku Valtice v létě 2020. Ačkoliv měla být výstava dle původního záměru stále otevřená, byla nedávno uzavřena kvůli zhoršené situaci s Covidem v Česku a omezením vydaným vládou. Pokud jste tedy plánovali návštěvu a nevyšlo vám to kvůli vzdálenosti nebo dřívějšímu uzavření, můžete se na pár kostýmu podívat alespoň prostřednictvím těchto fotek.

Samotná výstava byla umístěna ve dvou větších místnostech a každý návštěvník dostal zapůjčený komentář ke kostýmům na papíře. Výklad se týkal zejména scén, kde se kostýmy objevily a kdo je měl na sobě. Sem tam zmínili něco blíže o kostýmu nebo použité bižuterii. Autoři kostýmů se nesnažili o historickou přesnost kostýmů, ale o dokreslení situací, kde se objevily, a charakteru postav, které je nosily. Objevily se tudíž i dosti přeplácané kostýmy, které takto doplňovaly charakter postavy milenky Františka Štěpána.
