In my today´s post I am bringing you a few photos from a Victorian & steampunk picnic that was held in Prague this weekend. I was surprised by the huge attendance, there must have been about 60 people. I assembled for me this yellow bustle gown. It is made from a PES fabric (sorry, no period fabric), but it has the greatest properties, it did not crease at all and it was so sheer that I was not overwhelmed by a heat, although it was a rather cloudy day, but hey! it was a perfect weather for a group of people dressed in a period clothes. I am actually sad there was not more of this great fabric because I would love to create a summer dress from it. BTW I used around 4 and half meters of fabric that was cca 140 cm wide.
Instead of a bag I used a wicker basket to bring all my stuff there. I had a yellow blanket and baked a lemon cake (Hi Sansa!) and transported my lemon ice tea in a glass (wine) bottle. So yeah, I accidentally harmonized everything with the colour of my dress. Even the cover of the book I was reading had a bit of yellow in it, lol. I would like to say here that I am a little sorry I was wearing a corset because there were so many things I would like to taste, but one cannot eat much while laced a corset.
I was  quite in a rush while sewing the dress because I did not have much time on my hands, the skirt and some of the parts of the bodice were finished the evening before the picnic, lol. I will share some photos from the construction of the dress now, but when I run out of the time I stopped documenting the proces, so it is not complete.  For the bodice I used my favourite shirt pattern by Burda and altered it with the help of this great book by Elizabeth Friendship. I estimated the shape of the skirt and then gathered it at the back with two safety pins with a bow. I made my favourite rope braid on my hair, with a bit of the help of kanekalon hair extension, and adorned the hairdo with fake fruits I bought at the florist´s.
At the end of the article I would like to thank again to organizers for hosting this wonderful event and for the beautiful gift made by Resin-ka and Victorian Catherine I was given for my costume.

  2. That dress is incredible! And that sounds like such a fun event, I'm not sure there is anything like it where I live. Otherwise I'd go.
