Reasons to fall in love with winter

Once again it feels like it is getting too long, isn´t it? The days are short, you go to work/school when it is still dark and you are leaving it when it is already dark again, it is cold outside and you have to ruin your hair with a cap that keeps you warm. The sun is usually scarce because of the weather inversion and don´t let me even start to talk about the omnipresent salt that is ruining your beloved leather boots or even worse – your pet´s soft paws. The following text will give you some advice on how to find something positive about winter.

(1)   Winter can be really photogenic. The snow covers all the mess and creates a beautiful Wonderland. Everything looks different. No such luck? Make a weekend trip to the mountains, go on a hike and don´t forget to take pictures on your way. Enjoy the positive side of the winter. Don´t get yourself trapped in a city with greyish slush on the streets. Later in the year you will be looking at these pictures full of snow and will be wishing to experience it again (because it is suddenly too hot in the summer ;)).
Zima dokáže být velice fotogenická. Sníh zakryje všelijaký nepořádek a vytvoří krásnou Říši divů.

(2)  Winter sports – I am not a sports enthusiast but still enjoy some winter sports. I love to observe the view when it is a beautiful day on a hillside. The sound of the snow under the (cross-country) skis is calming. The unusual silence of the forrest covered in snow is so unusual (for a person used to living in a big city full of noices). The sounds of the ice on a pond while ice skating is fascinating. Go outside and enjoy these little things that are specific only for winter.
Zimní sporty – nejsem žádný velký sportovec, ale i přesto si dokážu zimní sporty užít.

(3)  You finally have an opportunity to really layer your clothes. The art of layering requires some skill and cohesive wardrobe with matching pieces (polka dots are not usually  matching tartan... you get the idea). And another thing – the knitted shawls. If you are like me then you probably have quite a collection of knitted shawls. Some are those that I bought but a lot of them were given to me. Knitted things belong on the list of typical Christmas gifts and I do not condemn them at all, on the contrary – I love them because their flufffy texture is giving me a feeling of warmth and cosiness. This particular feeling of warmth when hugging a huge shawl is impossible to experience in another season of the year. And be honest – is there a better time of the year for your huge knitted Christmas socks?

A další super věc – pletené šály.

(4)  The short days are sometimes getting on our nerves and can even cause a depression. On the other hand there are a lot of decorative lights in the streets. They are not only creating the festive Christmas mood but also make the cities more playful. Also the windows of the shops are somewhat more decorated and beautiful. They are trying to persuade you to enter and buy something. And with the end of the year the sales begin!
A s koncem roku začínají výprodejové slevy!

(5)  Winter is the season when one has more opportunities to enjoy culture. There are more movies in the cinema, good series are running, the theatre is offering new shows and there is also ton of balls. To be honest I never understood why the ball season is during the winter when it is rarely possible to be able to walk outside in your nice ball shoes but whatever. Transport yourself to a ball room and you will forget the winter outside while waltzing away.

Hopefully I persuaded you that winter is not that bad and has also its positives. Just remember the summer – constant complaining that it is too hot or raining. And after all... the spring is right behind the door waiting to start blooming (yay for the allergies ;)

  3. You are right, winter in the snow is SUPER photogenic. One of my all-time favorite photo shoots we did was in the Sierra Mountains after a fresh snow storm. It was gorgeous :)
