Christmas city guide to Praha, Czech Republic 🎁🎄 BLOGmas: Day 9

Do you want to visit something interesting in Prague during the Advent time, but you have no idea where to go? Or are you still looking for some Christmas presents? Look no more, I have collected in this article all interesting events happening in Prague that I like.

Rádi byste v Praze během Adventu někam vyrazili, ale nenapadá vás kam? Nebo ještě potřebujete sehnat poslední vánoční dárky? V tomto článku jsem dala dohromady všechny zajímavé akce, které se v prosinci v Praze konají a zaujaly mě.

If you are looking for some Christmas presents be sure to visit Dyzajn Market (Václav Havel´s square, Praha), it is held on 8th, 9th, 15th, 16th December. You wil find here a lot of wonderful designer things, but also delicious refreshments. There is nothing like a hot juice to keep yourself warm. Pokud ještě sháníte vánoční dárky, pak byste neměli minout Design Market, který je na náměstí Václava Havla 8., 9., 15., 16. prosince. Najdete zde množství designerů s vymazlenými produkty, ale i skvělé občerstvení. Není nad horký juice na zahřátí. Na fotoreport z prvního dne zimního Dyzajn Marketu se můžete podívat zde.

On Sunday 16th December at 12-20:00 you can visit Vnitroblock (Tusarova 31, Praha) and its Christmas street. We should expect great food ad drinks and possibility to buy some Christmas presents and even an opportunity to DIY some presents.

V neděli 16.12. ve 12-20:00  se můžete vydat do Vnitroblocku (Tusarova 31, Praha) do Vánoční uličky. Pořadatelé slibují dobré jídlo a pití a možnost nakoupit a snad i vyrobit nějaké vánoční dárky.

For those obsessed with historical clothes, especially the Victorian dresses, I recommend the Victorian Christmas at the Old Times Museum (Valdštejnská 4, Praha). During the weekends in December there are commented tours focusing on the Victorian Christmas traditions. Each time I visit this museum I am amazed by the exhibition of handcrafts on the dresses.

Pro nadšence historických oděvů zejména z doby viktoriánské doporučuji akci Viktoriánské Vánoce v muzeu Kouzlo starých časů (Valdštejnská 4, Praha). O víkendech v době Adventu zde probíhají prohlídky se zaměřením na vánoční zvyky Viktoriánů. Pokaždé, když toto muzeum navštívím, jsem nadšená a velmi obdivuji všechny ruční práce, které jsou na vystavených šatech k vidění.

You should also check Manifesto Winter Market, that is held each Thursday till Sunday in December. You will find it when walking on the right pavement from the Masaryk´s railway station to the Florenc bus station. I had a bit problem to find it when I got out of the underground at Florenc, because no address is given. They have wonderful drinks and foods here. Amazing hot wine, hot chocolate or pho soup. You can buy here designer Christmas presents, but the sellers are changing so you should not hesitate because if you return the next time, the seller might not be there anymore. The market is nicely decorated and I rate it positively. I like that such events are held at otherwise deserted places. I hope that Manifesto market will move somewhere else when they will have to leave this place because of the construction.

Za návštěvu určitě stojí Manifesto Winter Market, který každý čtvrtek až neděli najdete cestou pěšky od Masarykova nádraží na autobusák na Florenci na pravém chodníku. Upřímně, když jsem market hledala po vylezení z metra na zastávce Florenc, měla jsem celkem problém to najít, jelikož přesná adresa není udána. Chtěla bych vás hlavně upozornit na nejrůznější skvělé nápoje a jídla, která zde můžete ochutnat. Třebas super svařák, horkou čokoládu nebo polévku pho. Můžete si zde také nakoupit designové dárky, prodejci se zde střídají, tak nesmíte zaváhat s tím, že se vrátíte jindy. Market je hezky vyzdobený a celkově to hodnotím pozitivně, jsem ráda, že se takové akce, které se snaží pěstovat veřejný prostor na jinak opuštěných místech, konají. Doufám, že se Manifesto market někam přesune až bude muset toto místo na Florenci opustit kvůli probíhající výstavbě.

At last I would like to bring to your attention the Sweet life under socialism in winter at the Dancing House Gallery. You have quite a lot of time to visit it, it ends on 3rd March 2019. I can already see the pattern that the exhibition hosts discovered that the retro and the nostalgia of 50s till 90s is attracting a lot of visitors so they are hosting one retro themed exhibition after another. I think that this one was a bit weaker than the others, but still, I could have recalled some memories and I have recognized a few things there that my family owned or still owns.

Závěrem bych chtěla upozornit na výstavu Retro zima za socíku v Galerii Tančící dům. Na návštěvu máte dost času, končí až 3. března 2019. Je znát, že pořadatelé výstav v Tančícím domě vyhmátli téma které táhne lidi - retro a nostalgie let 50. - 90. let v Československu - tak pořádají téměř jednu retro výstavu za druhou. Z těchto retro výstav považuji tuto za trochu slabší než byly ostatní, ale každopádně jsem si opět mohla zavzpomínat na některé věci a poznala jsem i předměty, se kterými jsem si třebas hrála nebo je máme schované dodnes.

I remember these plates in a few variations, we might even still have some stacked away. Each year we use this clinking metal Christmas tree (though sometimes it is a bit challenging to buy the right size of the candles for it), but I put the bells on the top of the tree under the airscrew, not on the sides.

Tyto talíře v různých variacích si pamatuji nebo je dokonce ještě máme. Plechový cinkací stromeček zapalujeme každým rokem (občas je trochu těžké do něj sehnat ty správné svíčky), akorát jej tedy skládám trochu jinak - zvonečky umisťuji hned pod vrtulku nahoře.

There was a text accompanying the exhibition. In one they explained that it was hard to have original clothes during the socialism so many women were sewing or knitting. Looking at the exhibited sweaters I suspect that they collected and exhibited the worst pieces they could find, the colour combinations and the shape of some of these are weird. It cannot be compared to the sweaters (that I wear till these days) knitted by my mother.

Na tabulích s textem píší i o tom, jak bylo za socialismu složité mít nějaké originální oblečení, což vedlo k vlastní tvorbě - šití či pletení. Při pohledu na vystavené svetry jsem ale měla pocit, že snad schválně z archivů vytáhli nejšílenější svetry v nejhorších barevných kombinacích a divných nelichotivých střihů. S tím, co třeba pletla moje mami (a co nosím dodnes) se to vůbec nedá srovnávat.
