Happy solstice! 🎁🎄 BLOGmas: Day 21

Today is the longest night in the year (on the Northern Hemisphere). This time is known as winter solstice or midwinter. In the pagan past this was a celebrated day that had a great importantce to people. The solstice is a symbol of (re)birth, because of the returning sun that will bring spring soon and crops. After the expansion of Christianity, the Christmas prevailed. But if you look closely you will discover that the Christian mythology was built around the calendar of the pagan celebrations, this is why these two are so close to each other and at the same time of the year. On the other hand, the changes of the seasons etc. used to be very important to people, because their livelihood depended on it. The Scandinavian and Germanic pagans created a twelve-day celebration (similar to Christian Christmastide and Twelvetide) around the winter solstice called Yule and many Christmas customs were developed from the Yule customs. Dnešní noc bude (na severní polokouli) nejdelší v roce.Tomuto úkazu se říká zimní slunovrat. V pohanské minulosti to byl důležitý slavnostní den. Slunovrat byl symbolem (znovu)zrození, protože začínal cyklus návratu slunce, které brzy přivolalo jaro a úrodu. Po rozšíření se křesťanství převážily v tomto období oslavy Vánoc. když se ale podíváte blíže, zjistíte, že křesťanská mytologie byla tak trochu naroubovaná na existující pohanské oslavy, proto se Vánoce a zimní slunovrat odehrávají ve stejném časovém období. Na druhou stranu proměny ročních období apod. bylo pro lidi vždy důležité, protože na nich závisela obživa lidí. Skandinávští a germánští pohani vytvořili kolem slunovratu dvanáctidenní oslavy (které se podobají oslavám křesťanské liturgie - Christmastide, Twelvetide), které nazývají Yule. Od Yule si pak Vánoce vypůjčily některé zvyklosti.
