In the season four of the Netflix series Emily in Paris a picturesque Italian town named Solitano was introduced to the plot, sparking interest of many viewers who might have already started to plan next year's summer there. Unfortunately Solitano is a fictional place but it merges together what many of us imagine under a term “old Italian town in countryside” as it is depicted as a charming idyllic Italian town with beautiful cobblestone streets, old houses and colourful flora creeping in where it seems that the time stands still.

Ve čtvrté řadě netflixového seriálu Emily v Paříži se podíváme do malebného italského města Solitano, které ihned zaujalo mnohé diváky, kteří si možná již začali plánovat jeho návštěvu příští léto. Bohužel, Solitano je smyšlené místo, které do sebe kombinuje stereotypní prvky “starého italského městečka na venkově”, protože je zobrazeno jako malebné idylické městečko, kde se zastavil čas, s dlážděnými uličkami, starými domy a sem tam se objevujícími květinami.

Apart from the stunning visuals of Solitano, the fictional narrative of the Muratori family’s cashmere business in Solitano adds an element of luxury, making it an attractive destination for fashion enthusiasts. This business is a central element of Solitano’s identity, with the entire town seemingly involved in the production of their cashmere products. The Muratori family’s business is creating a prosperous and close-knit supportive community. The depiction of the town in Emily in Paris has sparked significant interest in similar real-life Italian towns.

Krom vábivé malebnosti Solitana je sem zasazen i rodinný business s kašmírem klanu Muratori, což přidává Solitanu ještě další dimenzi produkce luxusního zboží, čímž láká nadšence do módy. Tento kašmírový business utváří identitu celého města, jelikož to vypadá, že snad všichni obyvatelé se na něm nějak podílejí. Rodinný podnik Muratoriových tak přispívá k prosperující a soudržící komunitě města. Obraz Solitana v Emily in Paris tak vyvolal u diváků zájem o podobná existující italská města. 

I can only imagine if the series´ creators mentioned a real place it would be packed immediately and overtourism would become an issue there soon. (Remember those articles about local Parisians hating on Emily?) 

Umím si představit, že kdyby tvůrci seriálu rovnou přišli s reálným místem, stalo byse  okamžitě obětí overturismu. (Pamatujete ještě články o naštvaných pařížanech, co nemají rádi Emily?)

Ostia Antica - Solitano´s filming location | filmová lokace Solitana

However (!) even though the town in the series does not exist, the scenes were filmed in real places, mostly in the village Ostia Antica near Rome. Ostia Antica is renowned for its ancient Roman ruins and historical significance. Landmarks that appeared in the series included the Castle of Julius II that adds to the town’s historical vibe. These real filming locations are therefore now becoming a must-visit spot for fans of the show and it is anticipated that they will become the trending vacation spot for summer 2025. 

Ale (!) ačkoliv Solitano neexistuje, bylo natočeno na reálných místech, a to zejména v Ostia Antica u Říma. Ostia Antica je známá pro architektonické pozůstatky z dob římské říše. V seriálu se objevil hrad Julia II, který přispěl k historickému vzhledu města. Reálná místa, kde se natáčelo, se tak dostávají na seznam míst, která fanoušci chtějí vidět na vlastní oči, takže se očekává o ně zvýšený zájem v létě 2025.

Thinking about Solitano and seeing its visuals I would suggest visiting the villages and towns around the Italian Lakes Garda, Maggiore and Como that have a similar picturesque vibe. You can also visit beautiful villas and islands in them that will for sure be a welcomed change of scenery.

Když tak koukám na Solitano a jeho zákoutí, poradila bych zaměřit svou pozornost na městečka kolem italských jezer Grada, Maggiore a Como, která nabízejí podobný malebný ráz. A až se jich nasytíte, můžete navštívit i překrásné vily a ostrovy v jezerech.
