Open House Praha 2023 #OHP

This year´s Open House Praha, OHP 2023, was packed once again. I am happy that this festival is continuing to grow and is still popular (even though it means long queues in front of some buildings). We gave up our first pick and quickly moved on to Vršovice Waterworks in Michle where we tried to get in years ago when it was opened for the first time and gave up. This time we waited about two hours and got in and it was worth it. It was an interesting and a bit adrenalin filled experience (possibly suitable only to people that are in a good shape as we were climbing old ladders and walked a lot of stairs where you´d see all the way down, which I really used to hate it but after years of exposure I kinda got used to it, though it still makes me to take a deep breath and hold to the railings).

Na letošním Open House Praha bylo opět hodně zajímavého k vidění. Mám radost, že festival stále funguje, roste a je o něj zájem (i když to znamená, že na některých místech budou fronty). Naši první zastávku jsme kvůli frontě a rychle se přesunuli k Vršovické vodárně v Michli, kam jsme se pokoušeli dostat už před nějakou dobou, ale vzdali to. Tentokráte jsme si tedy počkali dvě hodiny a dostali se dovnitř na prohlídku a opravdu to stálo za to. Byla zajímavá a taky trochu adrenalinová (spíše pro lidi v plné síle, protože jsme lezli po starých žebřících a šli po schodech, kde vidíte až dolů, což nemám ráda, ale časem jsem tento takřka strach překonala jen k mírnému odporu).

Our next stop was DBK Shopping Center designed by Věra Machoninová who is a famous Czech architect who also co-designed Hotel Thermal in Karlovy Vary or Kotva in Praha. This visit was pretty interesting as well thanks to the guides who knew the building very well. It is a shame that a lot of interesting features that were creating the unique look of this building were destroyed because of "reconstructions" or because the original look didn´t align with the visual branding of companies that rented the space for their shops.

Naší další zastávkou bylo Obchodní centrum DBK navržené architektkou Všrou Machoninovou, která se podílela i na návrhu hotelu Thermal v Karlových Varech nebo na Kotvě v Praze. Prohlídka byla zajímavá hlavně díky skvělým průvodcům, kteří měli k místu a tématu vztah, takže budou dobře znali. Je škoda, že spousta designových detailů byla zničena kvůli rekonstrukcím nebo kvůli tomu, že původní unikátní design se nehodil k vizuálnímu brandingu obchodů, které si zde pronajaly prostory.

We revisited Garden of Arts as it was close at this point and I wanted others in our group to see this place as well as I was sure they´d like it. It was interesting to see how it changed and cleaned up compared to the last time that I visited this place.

Znovu jsem se podívala do Umělecké zahrady, která byla celkem blízko, chtěla jsem, aby ji ostatní z naší skupinky viděli, protože jsem si byla jista, že je zaujme. Bylo zajímavé vidět jak moc se od mé poslední návštěvy proměnila a byla "naklizena".

Then we traveled by tram to the Floating Boathouse of TJ Tatran Praha where we took a little walk on the docks as well. We wanted to see the Historical Boathouse of the Czech Yacht Club as well but the queue was too long at this point and there was not much time till the closing hour so we gave up and almost ran to...

Dále jsme sjeli do Plovoucí loděnice TJ Tatran Praha, kde jsme se trochu prošli i po docích. Chtěli jsme se také podívat do Historické loděnice Českého Yacht Klubu, ale tam byla fronta, že bychom ji do zavíryčky nestihli vystát, rozhodli jsme se tedy takřka doslova doběhnout do...

... T. J. Sokol Pražský Gymnasium, quite on point ;) What a fancy gymnasium! It looks better than some places that were built with the intention to host balls or concerts. It still smells like any other gymnasium I ever visited though, we did have a talk how this is even possible, it brings childhood memories of P.E.

... Sokolovny T. J. Sokol Pražský, celkem příznačné, že? ;) Jak vyzdobená tělocvična! Vypadá lépe než některé sály, které byly od počátku stavěny za účelem kulturních akcí typu bály a koncerty. Je však cítit jako každá jiná tělocvična, vždycky mi to připomene "jarmily" a hodiny školního tělocviku.
